If you experience fears or anxiety at the thought of visiting the dentist, then sedation dentistry may be right for you. At Ebrahimian Integrative Dentistry, we offer nitrous oxide as a way to help you relax and remain calm during your appointments.
What is nitrous oxide?
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is a gas that you inhale through a mask while you receive your dental care. The purpose of nitrous oxide is to help you relax and feel comfortable while undergoing dental procedures. This form of sedation will not put you to sleep; you will have complete control over your body, and will be able to interact with your dental care team.
Is nitrous oxide safe?
Nitrous oxide is deemed safe for most patients. It contains a mild sedative, mixed with oxygen, and lasts only while receiving treatment. At the conclusion of your appointment, the mask is removed, and it takes only minutes for the sedation effects to fade away. It is even safe for children who are apprehensive about their dental visit, or who may struggle with sitting still throughout their appointment.
Who should use nitrous oxide?
Patients who experience anxiety or fear of undergoing dental treatments or have trouble with a strong gag reflex should consider nitrous oxide. Be sure to discuss your medical history with the dentist to make certain nitrous oxide will be effective for you. Also, patients undergoing multiple treatments that will require a longer than normal appointment may want to consider nitrous oxide for added comfort during their procedures.
