Straightening your teeth with Invisalign has its advantages – no metal, which means that you can get a perfect smile discreetly! And, you’re certainly investing in your smile, an investment that will pay off. It’s important that you take good care of your aligners, and become comfortable wearing them so that you can achieve your desired result in no time.
Orthodontists in Scotts Valley at Ebrahimian Integrative Dentistry have six tips for Invisalign patients to help you protect your investment and get the most out of your treatment.
Practice makes perfect
Although your aligners are quite sleek, and not very noticeable, they may feel kind of strange in your mouth initially. You may slur your words or find it difficult to pronounce certain sounds. To get past this, practice talking at home. Talk to your friends and family over the phone, or read out loud to get used to talking while wearing your aligners. The more you talk, the quicker you will get over that feeling of slurred speech.
Pack a toothbrush
Whether you’re at work or school, keep a toothbrush handy at all times. Brushing twice a day is usually good enough to maintain your oral health, but when you wear Invisalign, you don’t want sugars or bacteria to become trapped between your aligners and your teeth all day. Avoid wearing your aligners when you eat or drink anything besides water. Brush after every meal or snack!
Use a whitening toothpaste
Use a whitening toothpaste each time that you brush. Since your teeth will be protected with your aligners, it’s the perfect time to work on whitening your teeth shades whiter! You may still want to opt for a professional whitening treatment either during or after your Invisalign treatment has concluded.
Store aligners safely
You should wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day, removing them only when you eat, drink, or to brush and floss your teeth. But, during these times that you need to remove your trays, be sure to store them in the container that we provide you. Avoid wrapping your aligners in a napkin when you eat, as they could easily be mistaken for trash and get thrown away! Also, leaving your aligners lying around could put them at risk for getting lost or broken, which may delay your end-goal. It’s always a good idea to keep your last set of aligners that you wore. That way, should something happen to your current set, you could put your old set back in to buy yourself time until you can get in to see the dentist to have your set remade.
Let us know if there is a problem
Should you incur a problem, let us know! Always communicate any issues, discomfort, or unexpected changes that may occur during your treatment. Definitely let us know should you lose or break a set of aligners.
